Selectmen Minutes June 16, 2003
The weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on June 16, 2003.

Present: James M. Hardy, Chairman

Department Update

Mary Jane Kingsland, Director of the Office of Elderly Affairs, was present to give a Department Head update.

Mrs. Kingsland reported on the Meals on Wheels program and the Dial a Bat program, as well as the various trips they've made and will be making in the near future.

Appointment

Joseph Cooke, Manager of Cooke's Waterside Restaurant was present with a request for a change in dba from Cooke's Waterside Restaurant to Casa Loma Pub & Club, 124 Robbins Street.

Mr. Hardy expressed concerns to Mr. Cooke, with regards to the Casa Loma name, specifically the reputation of the previous establishment.

Mr. Cooke stated that he was well aware of the problems the Casa Loma had, and expressed the fact that it was a different building, and had different owners.

Mr. Greene and Mr. Walsh stated that this was a business decision and that it should be up to Mr. Cooke to make it successful.

m/Greene, s/Walsh, vote to approve Joseph Cooke's request to change his dba from Cooke's Waterside Restaurant to Casa Loma Pub & Club.
Yes - Green, Yes - Walsh, No - Hardy, a majority vote in favor.

Appointment

Town Counsel, John Stuebing was present to discuss the placement of two Articles on the Special Town Meeting Warrant for Monday, July 14th @ 7:00 p.m. regarding the 3 Intersection project land taking. Note: the date has been clarified with the Town Moderator and the Town Clerk.

m/Greene, s/Walsh, a unanimous vote, move to close the Warrant for the Special Town Meeting, to contain two Articles for land taking, for Monday, July 14, 2003.

Open Forum

Peter Hamilton, Chairman of the Finance Committee, was present to correct a statement in an editorial in the Brockton Enterprise a couple of weeks ago that stated the Finance Committee had a $900 stipend and that members were eligible to take part in the Health Insurance Program through the Town. Mr. Hamilton wanted clear up the fact that the Finance Committee does not receive a stipend and are not eligible for any Health Insurance Benefits whatsoever.

Mr. Hamilton explained to the Board that he spoke with two editors at the Enterprise and that they stated that this correction would be placed in the newspaper. However, Mr. Hamilton stated that it had not been as of yet.

Mr. Hardy stated that he would write a letter to the editor and would pass that letter along to the Board members before sending it out.

Board Discussion

Proposed Timetable for the Development of the Town Administrator's Position

A lengthy discussion was held with regards to an interim Town Administrator and the upcoming appointments with Dr. Desantis and a representative from the MMMA.

m/Green, s/Walsh, move to close Open Session and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining and litigation issues and will not be returning to Open Session.
VOTE: Yes - Greene, Hardy, Walsh; a unanimous vote in favor.
